In the course of approaching EU-membership and aligning to the
respective trade and health standards the newly founded National Food
Authority of Albania (NFA/AKU) will, with support by the EUD, establish a
nation-wide network of 12 locations for surveillance and monitoring of
the agro-food industry. The teams were assigned to design the regional
offices and laboratories consisting of serven reconstructions (team 1)
and five new buildings (team 2).
Giving a common standard and nation-wide identity for all 12 NFA buildings has been the main design driver for the strategic study of all proposed locations for the regional laboratory and office buildings. All site layouts are following the intention of providing a high standard and recognizable typology of especially the laboratories’ organization which are the core function of the institution and are to meet the EU / international design standards.
The following guidelines shall be applied in order to guarantee the above:
1. Laboratories and offices are split into 2 separate building parts of office sand laboratories facing each other.
2. For the sites of rehabilitation a new laboratory block shall be created while office spaces & auxiliary areas can be accommodated in existing structures.
3. The laboratory block carries the institution’s corporate identity façade and is positioned next to the main road.
4. In view of the minimum ground floor area available the office building part will be elevated one floor level in order to accommodate better access, delivery zones and parking spaces at ground level.
